ABOUT OUR BUSINESS UNITS
Countrywide Assured provides financial protection, ranging from pensions and savings to life cover and critical illness benefit. It was their initial portfolio of policies that brought about the formation of Chesnara plc in 2004.
Many of their customers originate from historical acquisitions. For example, closed-book businesses purchased from City of Westminster Assurance, Save & Prosper, Direct Line Life and Sanlam.
The primary focus of the business is the efficient and effective management of policies and customers’ interests, with the strategic objective of maximising value from the existing business. Countrywide Assured achieve this strategic aim by outsourcing their UK services to professional specialists, which is closely monitored by a central UK based governance team.
This outsourcing model creates a degree of cost variability and also offers the flexibility to support and accommodate future acquisitions.
This model also supports the company's overriding philosophy of putting the customer first
. Adopting this perspective not only ensures a rewarding financial future for their customers but also supports delivery of a service that meets their needs.
In 2023, Chesnara completed the acquisition of a closed portfolio of individual protection business from Canada Life UK. The Part VII insurance business transfer of this portfolio into CA plc was completed on 24 February 2025.
A second transaction with Canada Life UK to acquire a closed portfolio of unit-linked bonds and legacy pension business was announced in 2024 initially executed through a reinsurance agreement. Following court approval, the Part VII transfer of the portfolio to Countrywide Assured completed in July 2026, with policies subsequently migrated to the Group’s strategic outsourcing partner, SS&C.
CA plc, in the UK, remains open to new business with its onshore bond via third party platform links and this market position has been further strengthened through the acquisition of HSBC Life (UK) in 2026 now rebranded as Chesnara Life.

Chesnara completed the acquisition of HSBC Life (UK) Limited in January 2026. Prior to the acquisition, the business had already established itself in the UK as a leading provider of open architecture onshore investments bond, with 440k policies managed at 30 June 2026, spanning protection and investments.
Following the transaction, HSBC Life (UK) Limited was renamed Chesnara Life UK Ltd and operates under the Chesnara Life brand. The acquisition strengthens Chesnara’s UK operations by increasing scale, strengthening its market position and supporting future growth.
The business continues to sell its Onshore Investment Bond via third party platform links.

From its base in Stockholm, Movestic operates within the Swedish life insurance market with a clear mission: to help customers strengthen their financial position, enjoy greater freedom around retirement, and achieve improved financial security today.
Movestic provides personalised occupational pensions, long‑term savings through capital insurance, and life and health protection. Its products are distributed directly to companies and individuals, as well as through Independent Financial Advisers and other partners. Since 2026, Movestic has also established distribution of risk insurance products in the Norwegian market via partners. Movestic is currently one of the most frequently selected providers of advised occupational pension plans within Sweden’s fund insurance segment.
At the core of Movestic’s philosophy lies a dual focus: products and services tailored to the individual needs of each customer, and tools and support that simplify the daily work of IFAs and other partners. The unit‑linked products are transparent and easy to understand, supported by an attractive and diverse investment fund range, with the ambition of offering policyholders the best funds and asset management services available. With access to solutions built around their personal circumstances, Movestic’s customers gain the opportunity to shape a retirement that looks exactly the way they want it to.
Unlike the UK operations, Movestic manages its own servicing in‑house. This model aligns with the company’s commitment to high‑quality, personalised service for both customers and partners, and supports the continued growth of the business.
As an “open” business, Movestic generates value from new sales today and, as it continues to scale, will become increasingly cash‑generative - supporting further growth or contributing to the Group’s dividend strategy.

Scildon is based in Hilversum in the Netherlands and started trading in 1984 as Legal & General Nederland. The company was renamed Scildon following the acquisition by Chesnara. As of 2 July 2025, Scildon joined forces with Waard (another Dutch business unit of the group) whose focus was on the management of closed books, with the two businesses complementing each other perfectly.
Scildon is a Dutch life insurer focused on providing individual life insurance, investment and pension solutions. Its products are distributed through a broad network of independent financial advisers.
In recent years, Scildon has undertaken a strategic repositioning to strengthen its focus on individual life solutions. As part of this strategy, the company exited the collective pension market, transferring its group pension portfolio in 2025. This enables Scildon to concentrate on its core capabilities in individual protection, savings and retirement products.
Scildon and Chesnara have ambitious growth plans for the company, with further product, systems and portal development anticipated to further enhance Scildon’s enviable position in the Dutch life insurance market.
